Mushroom Stroganoff Recipe

Mushroom Stroganoff Recipe

Welcome to our delightful twist on the classic stroganoff recipe! In this version, we'll be incorporating the unique and flavorful addition of mushroom powder, elevating the dish to new heights. Mushroom powder, derived from dried mushrooms, infuses the stroganoff with a concentrated earthy taste, enhancing the overall umami flavor profile.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces of your favorite mushrooms (such as cremini or shitake), sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (or vegan butter for a plant-based option)
  • 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour if preferred)
  • 1 cup of vegetable broth
  • 1 cup of sour cream (or vegan sour cream for a plant-based option)
  • 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce (or vegan Worcestershire sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons of mushroom supplement powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked pasta or rice (to serve)

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they become tender and browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Set aside a handful of cooked mushrooms for garnishing later.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and whisk it together to form a roux. Cook for a minute or two to remove the raw flour taste.
  4. Slowly pour in the vegetable broth while continuously whisking to avoid any lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for a couple of minutes until it thickens slightly.
  5. Stir in the sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and mushroom supplement powder. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce is well combined and heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add the cooked mushrooms back into the skillet, stirring to coat them evenly with the creamy sauce. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Remove from heat. Serve the mushroom stroganoff over a bed of cooked pasta or rice. Garnish with the reserved cooked mushrooms and fresh parsley.
