Mushrooms for energy

Cordyceps comes first for energy: in a human trial, three weeks of a blend containing Cordyceps militaris was associated with a longer time to exhaustion. Lion's Mane is second, for the tiredness that shows up as not thinking clearly. Both are hot water extracts from fruiting bodies, Cordyceps at 10:1 and Lion's Mane at 8:1. Neither contains caffeine, and both are taken in the morning, every day.

Cordyceps: the morning one, with exercise data

Cordyceps militaris

Start here. Cordyceps is the only mushroom we sell with a human trial measuring physical capacity rather than immunity or cognition.

Cordyceps militaris is farmed and orange, not the wild caterpillar fungus it is usually pictured beside. Ours is a 10:1 hot water extract tested to 30% beta-glucans.

This is the morning one. Most people find it useless late in the day, which is exactly what you would expect from something taken for daytime energy. Nothing about it is sedating.

It is also the mildest tasting extract we sell, faintly savoury and slightly sweet, so it goes into coffee more cleanly than anything else here.

What the research says

Three weeks of daily supplementation was associated with a longer time to exhaustion and a higher ventilatory threshold, while a single dose did nothing (Hirsch 2017). It tested a six-mushroom blend, so it points at a direction rather than at one species.

A 2025 review of the human work asks for larger studies on better-characterised preparations, which is a fair ask of any supplement.

Lion's Mane: for the tiredness that is really fog

Hericium erinaceus

Second, and the pick if what you call low energy is really not being able to think straight.

Lion's Mane is the white, cascading mushroom that grows on hardwood, a culinary species before it is a supplement. Ours is fruiting body only, hot water extracted at 8:1, tested to a minimum of 20% beta-glucans.

Take it in the morning alongside the Cordyceps if you want both. Nothing about it is settling.

What the research says

A pilot in healthy young adults reported faster performance on a processing-speed task after a single dose and lower self-reported stress after 28 days (Docherty 2023). It is a pilot and the sample was small.

The larger Lion's Mane trial measured cognition in adults with mild cognitive impairment over sixteen weeks. Neither study measured energy as such, and we are labelling that rather than letting the association carry it.

How long until it works

  1. Week 1 Cordyceps and Lion's Mane in the morning. Week one is groundwork.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3 The Cordyceps trial ran three weeks. Earliest sensible checkpoint.
  3. Weeks 4 to 8 Where people report it most consistently, usually as less of an afternoon dip.
  4. Ongoing Daily rather than on the days you feel flat.

What customers report. Individual experience varies; none of this is a clinical claim.

Frequently asked

Will these give me an energy boost?

Not the way coffee does, and that is the appeal. These are caffeine-free and they build over three to four weeks of daily use, which is why people stay on them rather than riding a spike and a crash.

Which one for tiredness?

Cordyceps, in the morning, if it is physical tiredness. Lion's Mane if it shows up as fog rather than fatigue. If you are honestly just not sleeping enough, neither of them substitutes for that, and our sleep page is the more useful one.

Can I take them with coffee?

Yes, and Cordyceps in particular disappears into coffee better than anything else we sell. There is no interaction to worry about; they are foods.

How long before they do anything?

Three weeks minimum for Cordyceps, which is the length of the trial. Four weeks for Lion's Mane, which is when the stress finding appeared. Nothing here is fast.

Can I take both together?

Yes, and it is the common pairing. Both are morning extracts and they answer different halves of the same problem: Cordyceps for physical fuel, Lion's Mane for mental clarity.

Do they help with adrenal fatigue?

If you are exhausted enough to be searching that term, bloodwork is worth having. Cordyceps is the extract here with a human trial on physical capacity, and it works best as a daily habit alongside sorting out sleep.
